Burundi Band & Peace Choir
The Peace Choir and Burundi Band began in 1997 in a Refugee Camp in Tanzania where many had fled to escape war in Burundi. With a guitar made from discarded wood and old abandoned bikes, and an amplifier system made from clay bowls, the group attracted a great deal of interest. With the majority of the band members making their way to Perth, the group’s founder, Jean Phillippe, re-formed the group and today they perform regularly at African churches and community festivals, and have also performed at Telethon. The group recorded their first album in 2009.
